About Becky

I love exploring the outdoors, whether it’s in my own backyard or around the world, but I hold a special place in my heart for backpacking in the Colorado high country. I’ve worked as an in-house writer for corporations, marketing firms and environmental nonprofits in Los Angeles, Denver, Boulder and Fort Collins. Today, I thrive as a freelance writer, working from my little cabin on a wild river in a Northern Colorado canyon.

My biggest success? Raising two incredible sons who are happy and kind human beings, and who also love playing cards and taking road trips (I’ll take credit for the latter). My favorite things to write about? Stories that involve nature, female strength and resiliency, and thru-hiking the 500-mile Colorado Trail.

My personal essay “Follow the Hula Girl” is the lead story in Rise: An Anthology of Change, winner of the 2020 Colorado Book Award. This story, so near and dear to my heart, was also nominated for the Pushcart Prize.

My work has appeared in Sierra, Colorado Country Life, and Misadventures magazines, in The Road She’s Traveled and Wild Women anthologies, and on Out There – an award-winning podcast that explores big questions through intimate stories outdoors.

I have a B.S. in business administration and marketing from Colorado State University. Go Rams!
